Complications from Lympho Sarcoma
Poem shared by Patt Caldwell
In the stillness and quiet of a darkened moon
You shattered the silence of time with your first cry,
And as the sun stretched into a new horizon,
You were born.
And as you took your first breath, cradled in my arms...
I was there.
The sun moved purposefully against the skies-quickly, too quickly,
But that was life and life was love and with it you grew with joy and wonder.
Never questioning, just believing....
I was there.
The days marched on furiously, yet at times almost unnoticed,
But you touched each moment as though each had some secret, intimate purpose.
I was there.
With wiggles and wags you encompassed it all!
You ran and barked, teased and taunted,
You comforted and misbehaved.
There was laughter to be shared and tears to make
A cold, naughty nose, a warm furry muzzle...and
I was there.
One hardly notices the darkness
As it creeps unexpectedly onto a resting horizon
The night comes, and we rest
But wait...it comes too soon!
In horror, I cradle you once again in my arms;
Never wanting to let go
And with the gentleness and loyalty you always shared
You gaze once more, so intently into my breaking heart -
And as always...
You were there.
